Fiji Electricity Authority Contract Award

NOJA Power Annual Fishing Trip

Fiji Electricity Authority has recently awarded NOJA Power a new contract for the supply of another 30 pole mounted auto reclosers. They are to be installed across FEA's network to further sectionalise their radial feeders. The plan will increase reliability of the network as well as add remote controlled points. Remote control is provided using a combination of radio and GSM telephone networks and significantly reduces long term operating costs.

This is the third contract of supply FEA has awarded to NOJA Power for the supply of the OSM recloser product over the last 4 years.

FEA chose NOJA Power OSM pole mounted auto reclosers because it is possible to grade them in series on a feeder down to 100ms. Therefore it is possible for them to install up to 8 reclosers in series on the feeder - and still grade with their zone substation protection. This is considered a significant advantage over using a combination of reclosers and sectionalisers.
When sectionalisers are used it can cause wider outage regions on the feeders and FEA wants to eliminate that potential problem wherever possible. The NOJA Power solution offers the best option to achieve this.
By using all reclosers only the faulted section of the feeder is forced to have an outage instead of much larger sections of the feeder.

As part of the NOJA Power contract of supply, NOJA Power will also provide an engineer to conduct protection grading seminars and assist with the remote control configuration and integration to FEA's SCADA system.

NOJA Power's low voltage switchboard division recently hosted its annual fishing trip aboard the magnificent 75 foot South Pacific II.

At the annual event NOJA Power brings together its key low voltage switchboard manufacturing suppliers and customers to enjoy an incredible weekend fishing Moreton Bay.

This years' event was thoroughly enjoyed by the entire team and a good haul of sea perch and snapper was caught over the weekend.

KEMA Certificates or Reports - what you need to know

A manufacturer that has a high or medium-voltage product tested by KEMA is issued with a KEMA Type Test Certificate or a Report of Performance. It is important that end customers recognize that the two documents differ in status so that no one has an unpleasant surprise further down the line.

A KEMA Type Test Certificate is proof that a product has passed all the type tests specified in the relevant standard. The precise tests involved depend on the standard and the product.

Only if the product has successfully completed the entire test program is the desired Type Test Certificate awarded.

The purchaser of a certified product can be sure that it satisfies all the functional electrical requirements.

Sometimes, a manufacturer will choose to have a product put through a number of the tests specified in a particular standard, but not all of them.

This might happen when, for example, the end customer wishes to have reassurance on a particular point only, when the manufacturer wants to assess the development of a design, or when a product is not capable of withstanding certain tests. Under such circumstances, KEMA issues a Report of Performance.

A Report of Performance is a document specifying which tests have been conducted and what the results were.

A Report of Performance is not a confirmation that the product has passed a test.

Understanding the difference between Type Test Certificates and Reports of Performance is important when considering new or unfamiliar product and only a Type Test Certificate is endorsement of full standards compliance.
