OSM Recloser Used in ENERGEX Power Quality Improvement Project
NOJA Power has supplied ENERGEX with 50 15kV reclosers as part of a project to enhance network reliability while reducing capital expenditure.
ENERGEX's General Manager for Networks, Mike Griffin, said the OSM reclosers were chosen for their functionality, ability to integrate into the existing network and value for money.
The project involves placing reclosers in strategic locations around their network to reduce transient electricity supply interruptions and therefore improve SAIDI and SAIFI figures. Customers will see considerable improvements in power quality, especially in areas where lightning and storms frequently cause supply outages. ENERGEX will be a leader in terms of reliability by the project's completion.
NOJA Power's reclosers are well suited to interrupting transient faults due to their extremely fast first reclose time of 100msec. This allows any arcing caused by a lightning strike to be extinguished then supply re-connected before most household appliances are affected.
Integration into ENERGEX's existing network is simplified by configurable protection settings and curves. Grading with existing devices on the same feeder can always be achieved and is simple to configure using the graphical protection curve editor in the TELUS software package.
At 50 units, this is a significant capital equipment investment for ENERGEX. It will allow ENERGEX to add reclosers to a large number of feeders in a short time frame to greatly improve their distribution network. All 50 units are planned to be in service before the end of 2003.
