EPRI Commissions OSM15 Reclosers In China
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is conducting several trial distribution automation projects using the OSM15 recloser.
EPRI chose the OSM15 due to its advanced protection, communications and automation capabilities after reviewing and evaluating all products available in the market place. Mr Xu Layuan, the Director of EPRI Rural, was impressed with the OSM15 functionality and size and said it was a clear choice after the detailed investigation had been conducted.
Song Lou Substation
EPRI recently used the OSM15 to construct six substations. In each case they were used as bus circuit breakers as well as outgoing feeders on a 10kV network. A distribution automation system runs locally in each substation from a master station designed and built by EPRI. The interface to each RC control and communications cubicle is via a multi-dropped RS485 link utilising the MODBUS communications protocol.
EPRI sets the standards for rural electrification in China. It has a large and well-established research capability, employing 817 staff - 23 of which hold Ph.D degrees. EPRI’s advanced facilities include:
- high voltage laboratory
- high power testing station
- HVDC transmission simulator
- large power system simulator
- transient network analyzer
- energy management system for power system control
- electrical measurement and metering
The ability of the OSM15 recloser to pass EPRI’s exacting standards indicates it is the most advanced pole mount auto recloser available today when you consider it from a size, life, functionality and rating perspective.
